I tried loading the old kernel but the drives still come up as sd[abcd] so I'm wondering if something else was upgraded by apt-get at the same time that broke things. Unfortunatley I typically run apt-get without paying attention to what its upgrading so I don't know what that might be. I thought about trying to mount the drives, but I don't want to mount them to any specific folders so I'm not sure how that would work. I just want to force the system to recognize that there are partitions on those drives. Since I need to assemble them as an array after the partitions are recognized I'm worried that mounting them might cause them to be locked to whatever mount point I specify, if that makes any sense. I also don't know how the filesystem would work since nothing is going to be able to read the filesystem on the disk other than mdadm. I don't even think its a valid file system until its combined into the array. I'll try this when I get home though and see what happens, probably couldn't hurt anything. If this doesn't work I'm going to try Jason's suggestion of forcing recognition using mknod. I'm holding off to use that as a last resort because it seems like something I could use to muck things up even further. That said, given how much success I've had so far, its sounding like this may be required. Thanks again for the guidance so far guys. If anyone else has any added input I'm all ears. >From: Ro <ro at rohitnet.dyndns.org> >Reply-To: "Eastern Connecticut Linux Users' Group" <eclug at lists.eclug.net> >To: "Eastern Connecticut Linux Users' Group" <eclug at lists.eclug.net> >Subject: Re: [Eclug] Debian no longer recognized partitions >Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2006 08:28:05 -0500 > >Can you reboot off the old kernel? > >Debian doesn't usually remove old kernels.
