I have a debian box with an IDE boot drive and 4 SATA drives used in a software raid 5 configuration with mdadm. This was been working completely fine. A few days ago I rebooted after a kernel update and now the partitions on the drives aren't recognized. Before they showed up as /dev/sd[abcd]1 but now the only things showing up are /dev/sd[abcd] roo:/home/fnet# ls -l /dev/sd* brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 0 2006-11-16 19:11 /dev/sda brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 16 2006-11-16 19:11 /dev/sdb brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 32 2006-11-16 19:11 /dev/sdc brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 48 2006-11-16 19:11 /dev/sdd fdisk seems to indicate that the partition tables are still there, but I can't work out why they are no longer recognized as /dev/sd[abcd]1. Is there any way to force the system to recognize the partitioned drives? As it stands I can't reassemble my array. Apologies if my terminology is off but but hopefully my question is clear. Any information our pointers you can provide would be very much appreciated. I really don't want to lose the data on those disks. Below is the output from fdisk. If any other information would be useful please let me know and I'll post it. Thanks all. -Chacko roo:/home/fnet# fdisk -l /dev/sd[abcd] Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 1 60801 488384001 83 Linux Disk /dev/sdb: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 60801 488384001 83 Linux Disk /dev/sdc: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 1 60801 488384001 83 Linux Disk /dev/sdd: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdd1 1 60801 488384001 83 Linux _________________________________________________________________ Stay up-to-date with your friends through the Windows Live Spaces friends list. http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwsp0070000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://spaces.live.com/spacesapi.aspx?wx_action=create&wx_url=/friends.aspx&mk
