    Hi,

my work installs security systems at casinos (locks and cameras in
an integrated system). Most DVRs run on Windows and typically on old
Windows versions, such as W98. Our DVR runs on XP and has some custom
software with a lot of off the shelf hardware. DVRs are becoming such a
commodity in the market that creating applications that cannot be made by
an off the shelf developer don't make much sense. That means that seeing
a Linux box as DVR platform would be a big surprise to me.
Anything that deals with pure monitoring doesn't use anything of
the scale of a PC. There are big matrix switchers that pull 32 or 64
cameras to 4 or 8 monitors. For something permanent like controlling the
tables I'd expect the cameras to be hooked up with a very long cable to a
dedicated monitor. And why compress anything? The cameras spit out a
digital signal that can be run over UTP copper, ethernet (non-IP), IP,
wireless, or fiber. There may be some compression on the DVR itself so that
you do not need to wheel in the TB arrays daily, but that is usually
    selectable.

I can take a look at the Pelco and Kalatel catalogs that I have at
    work. I let you know.
