In gaim, do the following: 1. ^A (that's ctrl-a) 2. Add 3. Protocol -> IRC 4. Choose a screen name 5. Server: irc.eclug.net 6. Leave password and alias blank 7. Click Save, Click Close on the Accounts dialog Now on the main gaim window: 1. ^C (ctrl-c) 2. Select your new "IRC" account from the dropdown 3. In the channel field, enter #eclug 4. Click "Join", and you're there. Alternately, you could use X-Chat, which should be installed on your Linux machine. The process is fairly straightforward to use xchat to join the same network and channel, or you could do it 'old-school' and just type: /nick bob /server irc.eclug.net /join #eclug That should work.
