     	In gaim, do the following:

     	1. ^A (that's ctrl-a)
     	2. Add
     	3. Protocol -> IRC
     	4. Choose a screen name
     	5. Server: irc.eclug.net
     	6. Leave password and alias blank
     	7. Click Save, Click Close on the Accounts dialog

Now on the main gaim window:

     	1. ^C (ctrl-c)
     	2. Select your new "IRC" account from the dropdown
     	3. In the channel field, enter #eclug
     	4. Click "Join", and you're there.

Alternately, you could use X-Chat, which should be installed
on your Linux machine. The process is fairly straightforward to use
xchat to join the same network and channel, or you could do it
    'old-school' and just type:

     	/nick bob
     	/server irc.eclug.net
     	/join #eclug

     	That should work.
